Starbucks Drive-Through Launch

Objective
The main objective of this project was to design a direct mail advertisement and a complementary drive-through menu to promote and support the opening of a new Starbucks drive-through location. The goal was to generate awareness, welcome customers to the new setup, and drive traffic through targeted local marketing. The direct mail ad included a promotional sale to encourage first-time visits and increase customer engagement from nearby neighborhoods.

The Challenge
One of the most significant challenges in this project was designing a drive-through menu that could clearly present multiple drink and food offerings within a very limited physical display area. The menu case available was compact, which required careful layout planning to avoid visual clutter while still showcasing enough product variety to appeal to a wide customer base. Additionally, because this was a drive-through experience, the design had to be easily legible from a distance, even as customers were moving through the lane.

Design Decisions & Strategy
To overcome the space constraint and enhance usability, I focused on clarity, legibility, and visual hierarchy. I selected a clean, highly readable font with strong character definition, which remains clear from a distance and in motion. The type size was carefully chosen for visibility, and spacing between items was optimized for quick scanning.

Color contrast played a critical role: I used a high-contrast black and white palette to ensure maximum legibility under various lighting conditions. Key headings and item categories were emphasized with bold typography and simple graphic dividers to help customers quickly navigate options.

The direct mail ad echoed this clarity, using visual cues to introduce the drive-through and highlight the promotional offer. It featured inviting imagery and simple messaging to capture attention and encourage first-time visits. Together, the ad and the menu worked as a unified visual campaign, reinforcing the message across mediums.

Results
The combination of targeted direct mail and thoughtful drive-through menu design significantly increased traffic to the new drive-through. The clear, user-friendly layout helped improve order efficiency and customer satisfaction, especially during high-volume hours.
